Karma can be a Pleasant Surprise
Wednesday, 30 July 2014

Things are still in motion and constantly changing, but I after yesterday's letter from the Ohio DJFS saying I was denied my Food Assistance, then talking with Cheryl, my EPALS advocate, she helped by interceding.

But with the storms over the weekend that shut down the County Service Center @ Southgate, Denny hit a wall Monday and yesterday, as the Welfare office was turning clients away at the end of the month, their busiest time of the month, because their computers were still down!

Well, they sent my denial notice to the PO Box on Monday, the same box that they said they would not accept!

So imagine my surprise when I got a call from Mrs. Coleman-Barnes at 0730 this morning waking me up while asleep in the cab of Denny's tiny Ford Ranger pickup, and she conducted the phone interview and said I was approved for $189/month on EBT!

I gave her the address of EPALS, as Cheryl got approval from her supervisor for me to have it sent to their office in Playhouse Square!

I ain't gonna count my chickens before they hatch (I prefer James Thurber's version: "Don't count your boobies before they hatch."), anything can happen (like the runaround that they have been giving Denny who is already approved), but we shall see in 7-10 business days!

Cheryl even checked with her supervisor about Denny having his EBT sent to EPALS and then forwarded to my PO Box, and she said it was OK! So Denny headed to the County Service Center, and I headed to the Library at 0930.

Tonight is "Soups On!" @ the local Methodist church, and several of us are heading over at 1800. So we will get a hot meal and get to chat outside the Library. I am looking forward to that!

I hope I haven't jinxed any of this by sharing it so soon, but I was also informed by Cheryl that Medicaid approved my application, and she gave me my ID #. Just in time too, as I have been getting Cleveland Clinic Foundation bills for my Stress Test and Cardiology consult during my stay for a week at Bedford Medical Center back in March.

This means I can get my Meds paid for, get the blood work done that my primary physician, Dr. Mahlies, ordered, and be covered for any new issues that may crop up!

I plan on chillin' the rest of the day, and will hope that Denny experienced a good visit at Welfare to give them the EPALS address so that he can receive his EBT Card too!

'Till later, peace everyone!
