When
it Rains, it Pours, II
Sunday,
14 August 2016
I have reused a title from earlier, because it fits this post so well.
Yes it has been raining all day (and off and on for 3 days now), but after a trip last Sunday with my friend John to scope out rental properties in the Akron neighborhoods, he got back to me this week about a rental house owned by a friend of his that I met through our HAM radio group some years ago.
His friend Jim has some health issues (as of course, do I), and was recently hospitalized. But he has no paying tenant for this property, and is more than happy to rent out this 3 bedroom post war 2 story wood frame home with full basement and single car garage for a song!
John and I met Jim today at the house on Montrose. And we inspected the interior and chatted about the large base antenna mast that he and John erected on the side of the house with 2 meter, 6 meter, 10 meter, 80 meter, and HF antennas installed and wired into the house!
We also discussed my helping with some of the repairs, and setting up my HAM gear and tapping into that antenna array, as well as use of the 12” industrial metal engine lathe in the basement! (With 36” between centers, I can think of quite a few rifle barrel projects!!! Not to mention an easy fix to equip John's AR-10 with a muzzle device that will take a Blank firing Adapter!)
Now granted, I went into this knowing that it was more than I could hope for, but my last question as we were locking up to leave, was whether or not I could adopt a kitty to share the digs with.
Well, Jim is a cat person with several of his own at home, so there was no problem there! (It has been 3 years now since my 4 1/2 year old kitty, Laci, passed away in foster care of a lung infection that she had had since she was a kitten. I hope to adopt a kitty from that same foster/rescue agency in thanks for their loving care for her when I was unable to do so myself!)
Now we just need to schedule when I can move from my motel room (paid weekly, Thursday-Thursday) to the house!
I have only some clothes, my desktop computer, 2 laptops, gaming console, 24” TV, a small media rack, some books, and most of my cooking utensils here, so I figure 2 or 3 more Rubber Maid tubs and 3 chairs and a folding table total!
The rest of my stuff is in my friend Joe's basement in Mayfield Heights, only a phone call away! That includes my 5' tall Liberty Safe, the rest of my clothes, my tools, and some more chairs and a table.
With the garage, I will be able to keep my trike inside along with the metal wagon, and still be able to take it shopping, or for rides on the Towpath Trail (the Mustill Store Trailhead is just 1.2 miles away across from the CVSR North Akron Train Station)!
I have the METRO #12 bus running on E. Glendale, so I am just 8 minutes from the downtown transit center.
Shopping is on several of the bus lines, and the #12 runs to Chapel Hill. But with a Save-A-Lot, Giant Eagle, and even an Asian Grocery not far away, I will not suffer an empty larder anytime soon!
There is even a cigar lounge nearby, where I can get good smokes!
And once I learn the buses, there is Hilltop Hobby not far away, so that I can actually start construction on the 1/6 scale Radio Control Piper PA-22 Tri-Pacer that I bought plans for last year! And with a workbench in the basement, I can take the time to enjoy building it out of balsa and epoxy castings, and fine tune the radio and engine before venturing out to a flying field!
So as I said in the first paragraph, when it rains, it pours!
I will update as soon as I have a definite moving date, and will get more pics when I am moved in!
Again, thanks to all who helped me get this far, and to Jim, John, and Joe for encouraging me to get off my butt and look for a cheaper place, and be more frugal!
'Till next time, sportsfans, peace!
